Vapor Barrier Products for PermaTherm Pipe Insulation

The function of a Vapor Barrier is to prevent the passage of water vapor. It is used to prevent moisture in the atmosphere from entering insulation which is installed on surfaces which operate at temperatures that are lower than ambient. When operating temperatures are significantly below ambient much greater pressure is exerted on the vapor barrier. To operate efficiently a vapor barrier must be extremely durable and free from cracks and pinholes which will allow moisture vapor in and compromise the systems integrity.

Permatherm ZERO PERM VAPOR BARRIER

MLS 14 is a proprietary composite membrane that provides a permanent vapor barrier which reduces water vapor permeance to a practical zero.  MLS 14 is as flexible and workable as a film, yet it is as strong and durable as a sheet of metal. Whether your application requires control of water vapor transmission, heat transfer, dust accumulation or gaseous vapor infiltration, you can depend on MLS 14. In addition to its strength and performance MLS 14 exceeds ASTM E-84 & UL 723 flame spread and smoke development standards.

MLS 14 may be purchased in several formats that include bulk rolls which may fabricated on site, precut with a self sticking adhesive to be applied to insulation cores or pre installed on Permatherm cores with double side adhesive applied for quick installation.

Made from the proprietary MLS 14 material with special pressure sensitive adhesive it provides the same strength as MLS 14.  This tape is a superior low temperature vapor barrier joint closure system. 

The polyester coating on both sides of the laminate prevents formation of pinholes, which is critical to system integrity. The three-ply laminate utilized in MLS 14 is coated with a special cold weather acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive system. This adhesion system combines superior quick stick at normal temperatures with superior low temperature performance below freezing.

MLS 14 Pressure Sensitive Tape is used to seal butt joints of pipe insulation and wall penetrations, and to complete the installation of the Permatherm system.

Permacast is Permatherm’s Factory Applied Monolithic Vapor Barrier Coating
PermaCast® is an elastomer vapor barrier and weatherproof coating designed for the protection of PermaTherm’s Insulation Products.  PermaCast vapor barrier coating has outstanding flexibility, in addition to its superior vapor barrier characteristics.  By virtue of its factory application, Permacast coated products offer rapid installation times. The product comes complete with its vapor barrier installed. All that remains is the joint sealant and then on to the next segment.

PermaCast® was developed for chilled water, refrigerant, and cryogenic piping, fittings, valves, and vessels.

All Service Jacketing

Permatherm also provides its customers with ASJ for their various vapor barrier applications. Many applications do not require the absolute superior performance of MLS 14 or Permacast Vapor Barriers. The physical properties of Permatherm’s EPS core materials are such that when blended with commonly used All Service Jacketing the system is sufficient for less demanding applications. Many customers prefer the price advantages of ASJ jacketing when faced with less demanding performance requirement from the insulation system.

Permatherm sells ASJ jacketing in pre-cut and rolled to fit segments or factory applied to Permatherm EPS cores.
